Advices for helping schizophrenics

It is good to know that only a third of the people that develop schizophrenia are going to live with it for the rest of their life. Another third will surely recover, while the rest of the cases are going to experience occasional episodes.

As a schizophrenic, people should avoid too much stress. Employers are already developing different adjustments to the schedule in order to help people with mental problems such as schizophrenics to rehabilitate.

For treating schizophrenia, people try different therapies. Relaxing therapies are most frequently used to help schizophrenics step over their problems. A healthy life should also help. This life style should have a benefic effect over patients. It is necessary to include eating well, enough exercise and sleep and less stress.

One of the most asked questions is if people with schizophrenia are dangerous. Media presents us many cases where schizophrenics are seen like dangerous persons with duplicate personality. They also show us that schizophrenics need to be kept in institutions and that without drugs they are very dangerous. These affirmations are not real. Studies say that the chances for a schizophrenic to kill somebody are very low. Their problem is hearing voices. People who are afraid of them need to think again. Schizophrenics are having problems especially with themselves because the voices they hear tell them to commit suicide not to kill someone else. That is why every day in a schizophrenic's life is a fight for staying alive.

Partners, families or friends have a very important mission for the patients. Schizophrenics want what any one wants: affection. They are not allowed to feel alone and in every moment is recommended for them to talk to somebody. That is why the close friends or the families should try to find out more about schizophrenia including coping strategies to encourage the patients. A permanent discussion with these patients is one of the most useful things that a friend or a family member should do for them.

It is rather strange for people who are not suffering from schizophrenia to agree to its patients, but denial or even approval of their telling is not benefic for them. The solution should mean to agree to what they say but to expose your opinion after they are done with the explanations. Psychological support is also recommended, because specialist can work different with the patients. Their experience might help the schizophrenics to rehabilitate.

If the family or friends believe that there is a high risk of harming itself, the person with schizophrenia needs to be hospitalized.
